Welcome back

Welcome back everyone! We hope you all had a lovely break and managed to spend some time with your families and friends. Thank you for such a positive and happy start to Term 6.

This term is full of wonderful and exciting opportunities to learn and grow but it is also a time of goodbyes and changes. We will be preparing pupils for transitions, saying our thank yous and goodbyes and celebrating pupil and staff achievements.

Let's go Term 6!

 Learning Updates

Foundation Stage Reception children have been learning to double using mirrors. We are quickly learning to recall doubles.

Key Stage One  Year 1 and 2 have been on their school trip to Belton House this week.  What a fantastic day for it!  Not too hot and not raining – absolutely perfect.  The day started with lots of excitement when a double decker turned up; who knew that sitting on the top deck was so fun.  The children got to explore the gardens, run through the maze and there was even time for observational drawing in the formal gardens.  After a picnic lunch we explored the play park.  This trip really was in keeping with our topic The Great Outdoors!

Lower Key Stage Two LKS2 have had a busy first week back. We have started to work on our adventure narrative which we are writing for KS1. This week we have explored adventurous vocabulary to help us bring a setting and character to life. In reading comprehension we have started to read The Pebble in My Pocket. Following the journey of a single pebble over millions of years in history has helped us reinforce our rocks knowledge. We think it’s pretty solid now! We have all been getting back into the rhythm of things and begun our music singing units. Year 4 have had a taste of the Multiplication Tables Check and are ready to smash it next week! Finally, the Dragonflies and Ladybirds have at last had their dodgeball competition…who do you think won?

Upper Key Stage Two In UKS2, we have had a very busy week regaling our tales from half-term, settling back into our school routine and, of course, getting underway with play rehearsals! In English, the children have started a new diary writing unit, using Michael Morpurgo's novel 'Kensuke's Kingdom' as the writing stimulus. In Year 5 and Year 5/6, Angles (not angels 🙂) has been the focus in maths - honing our measuring skills, ensuring accuracy. Acute, right-angle, obtuse and reflex has certainly been mentioned a lot this week. The Year 6 class have been reading and interpreting line graphs as well as drawing their own. Y5/6 have been learning (and had some really good discussions) about the 'Great Plague' during our reading comprehension lessons. Children have been making comparisons between both the Great Plague and Covid - using a historical event to compare with a modern one - some really good points were raised. A new PE unit started earlier on in the week - rounders. The children are very much looking forward to swimming starting next Friday.

Staff updates

Miss Hawkins will be leaving us for pastures new before the end of Term 6. She has secured a teaching position at another school and we are all very proud of her. She has been an asset to the school and we will all miss her dearly.

attendance

28 pupils have maintained 100% attendance so far this academic year.

Current whole school attendance is 95.14%.

Our attendance figures for term 5 were as follows:

Miss Pearson's Class had the best attendance in Term 5 and have been rewarded with an extra fun playtime. Well done everyone.

144 pupils achieved 100% attendance in Term 5. We are waiting for an order of attendance certificates to arrive so we can celebrate these achievements with the children.

During the last school week, we had  14_incidences of lateness. We hope to see this improve next week.

Please be reminded that doors open at 8:45 and registration is at 9:00. This gives you 15 minutes to be early and have a calm start to the day.

Book recommendations

The Fabulous Foxes in Year 1/2 would like to recommend the following books to you:

These are their favourite reading for pleasure books and they would love for you to enjoy them too.
