Welcome Back

Welcome back to school everyone. It's Term 5...how did that happen!

We hope you all had an enjoyable break and found some fun, love and laughter in your Easter adventures. The children have been full of excitement in their return to school and are ready for the term ahead.

Term 5 is full of BIG events; our SATS Week, Sports Day and the Coronation of our King... to name a few. We will also be asking pupils to show us their skills, knowledge and independence as we prepare them for their transition over the next two terms.

These next two terms are your chance to show us what you have achieved and how ready you are for your next steps. Let's do this!

 Learning Updates

Foundation Stage The children in Foundation Stage have been enjoying their new topic about minibeasts. They have listened to the story of The Very Hungry Caterpillar, answered comprehension questions using their phonics, painted the character from the story and explored lots of new and exciting areas in the Early Years setting.  We are also really excited to have some new visitors in school. We can’t wait to see what happens! 🐛

Key Stage One  It is so good to be back at school!  This week KS1 have been learning a poem by Julia Donaldson.  They have enjoyed acting it out and performing in front of their peers.  In art we have been focusing on the artist Vincent Van Gogh and exploring his amazing artwork.   We are looking forward to recreating some of his most famous pieces of art during the rest of the term.

Lower Key Stage Two We have had a lovely start to Term 5 in LKS2. We have all been 'ROCKstars' exploring, grouping and learning about rocks in Science. Our new English text 'No Ballet Shoes In Syria' has captivated us and we can't wait to start writing our narratives. We have all been 'EGGcited' to find out what happened to Humpty Dumpty after his fall, which was a cracking time in his life. It has inspired us to face our fears but left us feeling a little scrambled. Mr Anker was bowled over by some of Y3's cricket skills, whereas Miss Tucker and Miss Pearson were out stumped so Mr Steed took over.

Upper Key Stage Two Summer Term - how did that happen? We've had a positive start back in UKS2. In our welcome back talk, we've focused on friendships: kind hands, kind words, kind feet. The term has started with our topic (Ancient Egyptians) engagement activity - designing and creating a canopic jar. We have looked at their origins and what they were used for; designed our own jars and used clay techniques to make our own. In English, the Year 5s have started to polish their Jumanji narrative and the Year 6s have started a Macbeth unit of writing. In PSHE, the children have started the positive relationships unit. Here the children have thought and talked about people who are special to them and the qualities that make these people special.

attendance

34 pupils have maintained 100% attendance so far this academic year.

Current whole school attendance is 95.04%.

Our attendance figures for Term 4 were as follows:

All families received a letter to update them on their child's current level of attendance at the end of Term 4. Mrs Bates will be making phone calls to families in the next few weeks to offer support or to arrange attendance panel meetings where improvement in attendance or lateness has not been seen.

131 pupils had 100% attendance in Term 4. They have all received a certificate to recognise this incredible achievement.

During the last school week, we had  8_incidences of lateness. This is a significant improvement and a great start to Term 5!

Please be reminded that doors open at 8:45 and registration is at 9:00. This gives you 15 minutes to be early and have a calm start to the day.

Meet the team

Meet Mrs Burton

Hello everyone,

My name is Mrs. Burton and I joined Metheringham Primary in January 2023.

My job involves supporting individual children with their learning and so far I have had the pleasure of working in both Year 5 and Year 2.

I have been really welcomed by everyone at school since joining Team Green and find it so refreshing to work in such a happy and positive environment.

Outside of school I am very proud of my two daughters, and two granddaughters who are aged 4 and 2 years old. They certainly keep me on my toes! We are all very excited to welcome grandchild number 3 due in October.

When I get the chance I enjoy lots of walking, swimming and reading.  I have done a parachute jump and 'Race for Life ' to help raise funds for Cancer Research and hope to do more in the future. I also enjoy following football especially two teams that are close to my heart - Liverpool and Lincoln City.

Everyday I love to give my cat Winky lots of cuddles, she definitely enjoys being spoilt.

I look forward to seeing you around  school.

Pupil Voice from Science Week

This is what our pupils said about Science Week:

Easter Thanks

Parents and carers joined us in school on Friday 30th March for our Easter assemblies. I'm sure you will all agree that the children did a fantastic job of presenting, performing, singing and parading. The bonnets and eggs that were entered into our annual Easter competitions were so creative and imaginative. We would like to say a huge thanks to the children for their efforts and achievements. Our thanks also go out to parents who came along to make the day 'egg'xtra special.

In term 4, the children also visited the local church. They laid daffodils to give thanks for the Springtime. They also brightened up Metheringham Library with Springtime decorations. What a community!

FOMS

Our Friends of Metheringham School (FOMS) volunteers have out done themselves with their fundraising efforts throughout Term 4. They have given up their time to run an Easter Raffle and plan a fantastic Easter Disco for the whole school. They raised a grand total of £504.35 for the school. What an amazing achievement. A huge thank you to the whole team.

Of course, we also need to thank our wonderful families for purchasing tickets, entering the raffle and providing donations of Easter treats for prizes. We couldn't do this without your support. Thank you!

The community charity event that took place in the village hall over the holidays also raised £420! This money has been paid to FOMS to help support the school. What a community!
