 Learning Updates

Foundation Stage Foundation Stage children have been learning about coding using a Codapillar. They have really enjoyed exploring direction, by giving a robot instructions and developjng their problem solving skills.

Key Stage One  The Year 1 and 2 children have enjoyed painting their Chinese New Year rabbit sculptures.  They have had the opportunity to develop their designs and be creative.  In PE, the children have also been creative, constructing their own gymnastics routines.  They enjoyed working in teams to use all the skills they have been learning throughout the term.

Lower Key Stage Two This week, LKS2 have been practising their Matilda playscripts in English and creating props ready for their performance on Thursday. The children performed some fantastic gymnastics sequences, showcasing the skills they have learnt so far: balances, rolls & jumps. In Science, we are learning about how our muscles help our bones to  move. We have been flexing our biceps and triceps! LKS2 are coming to the end of their Length & Perimeter topic in maths – thank you for joining us at Maths Morning and sharing our learning. It has also been lovely to see the ongoing Roots 2 Food inspiration in your cooking skills at home!

Upper Key Stage Two In computing this week, UKS2 have used 'Crumble' to create a working 3D carousel, using all the skills learnt within computing this term. In science, the Year 5 and 6s have conducted an investigation, based around the effects exercise has on the heart rate. We had great fun trying to measure our heart rate 💚. In English, the children have planned and written up their discussion texts on deforestation. The year 5s continue to fill the corridor with musical ukelele sounds! 🎵

attendance

46 pupils have maintained 100% attendance so far this academic year.

Current whole school attendance is 94.99%.

Our attendance figures for week 5 of Term 3 are as follows. Well done to Miss Tucker's Class for the best attendance in two weeks running!

During the last school week, we had  24_incidences of lateness. This is a slight  increase on last week's figure.

Please be reminded that doors open at 8:45 and registration is at 9:00. This gives you 15 minutes to be early and have a calm start to the day.

Meet the team

Meet Mrs Parker

Hi everyone! I am Mrs Parker and I have been working for Team Green here at Metheringham Primary School for nearly 3 years.  I am a teaching assistant working with one child and occasionally groups in the Awesome Ashes year 5/6 class.  I really enjoy helping the children to develop and learn; it’s so nice to see their confidence grow. It’s lovely to see the smiles on their faces - learning should be fun.

I have 2 children who have both attended Metheringham Primary School, my son left last year and started secondary school (that was a scary time) and my daughter is currently in year 6 and due to start secondary school in September. I'm not sure I am ready for that again!

Outside of school, I enjoy spending time with friends and family, as well as walking our 2 dogs Rolo (7years old) and Dottie (20 months). One of my favourite things to do at home is baking whether it is big cakes, cookies, brownies etc. They contain no calories at all, AMAZING! (I wish).

As a family, we enjoy going for days out and spending time in the fresh air as well as going on holidays. Roll on spring and summer when the fun can commence!

TTRockstars

Every child from Year 3 upwards has a TTRockstars account which can be accessed in school or at home via the website TTRockstars

Each issue we will list the latest leader board for Times Tables Rockstars. To get on the leader board, you need to play 'studio' on TTRockstars and you need to play at least ten times.

Please find the current leader board and the class 'top rockers'. Well done Jackson, you've knocked Mrs Freeman off the top spot! Noah is also flying up the leader board!

Miss Wright's Class were the overall winners of the NSPCC Rocks challenge. What an incredible result from our youngest players.

Meet the school governors

Hello!

I am Richard Outhwaite, the vice chair of governors at Metheringham Primary. I have just started my second four-year term as a co-opted governor. I used to be a senior leader in a primary school prior to taking a career change into town planning. Some of you may have guessed, it’s a family thing, as both my wife and two children are at the school too!

A couple of specific roles that are assigned to me include the monitoring of the provision for special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) and vulnerable groups. I am very passionate about both of these areas and believe every child should be given the best possible opportunities to succeed. My previous career helps when completing monitoring, as I am qualified SENDCo so understand a lot of the complexities of working with lots of different professionals. I regularly come into school to complete monitoring with the school leads for these areas. I also take part in other monitoring activities related to our school improvement plan. It is always really good to hear and see the amazing things that are happening in our school.

In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with my family and I particularly enjoy being in the great outdoors so will often find me somewhere in the garden! I hope if you see me about please do come up and say hello. The governors are a very friendly bunch, and like the staff have the children at the centre of everything we do. Enjoy your half term break!

Maths Morning

Thank you to everyone that attended Maths Morning last week. The pupils love sharing their learning with you and your lovely comments tell us you thoroughly enjoyed it too.

A few parents told us they weren't aware that Maths Morning was taking place. Please be reminded that diary dates and upcoming events are weekly features on the school newsletter. Our website also has a calendar of events.

School Council

As this year's school councillors, we were elected by our classmates which lead into more elections for Chair, Vice-Chair and Treasurer. So, what have we been up to? Well, our first big projects were Children in Need, Anti-Bullying and Road Safety week. For Children in Need, we organised an event called RunPudsey. We also organised a poster competition. Next, we had a project on Remembrance Day, where we attended a Remembrance service in the village. We also ran a poppy sale throughout the week at school. Following up on this, we had Odd Socks Day to show we are all different. During the Christmas Fayre, the school councillors ran a few game stalls, which were very successful raising £69.40.  In January, the Chair, Vice-Chair and Treasurer had meetings with members of staff to learn about their responsibilities. We have many more exciting adventures coming up and we are very excited to share these with you all.
