Learning Updates

Foundation Stage The Reception children had a fantastic time at Metheringham Fire Station. They learnt how a firefighter receives fire calls, how quickly they need to get ready, which equipment they need and how they use the hose to put out a fire. We even got to sit in the fire engine to see what it’s like to be a firefighter. We had an amazing time!

Key Stage One In KS1, the writing has been phenomenal this week. We have been using the book, "Into the Forest" by Anthony Browne. Some of the sentences are KS2 worthy. Mrs Freeman came to see some of our learning and commented, "this writing is amazing, I can't wait for you to be in Year 6!" We are working hard during our handwriting lessons to make sure our letters are formed correctly and our presentation is of a high quality. We are all so proud of our super learners!

Lower Key Stage Two This week in Art, LKS2 have enjoyed exploring different artistic techniques using charcoal. We have also loved performing as hunter-gatherers and Stone Age scenery in dance, and getting into character as Bronze Age people in History. In English, we have taken on the role of a journalist, reporting on a terrible crime that has been committed by the menacing Big, Bad Wolf! On Thursday, we celebrated World Science Day by learning about famous female scientists, specifically Marie Curie. We ended the week peacefully, by taking time to remember. Have a look at our poppy art.

Upper Key Stage Two Second week in for this new term and Upper Key Stage 2 are really enjoying delving into the life of the legendary Roald Dahl in their Reading Comprehension lessons. Currently studying his autobiography of 'Boy', the children have, so far, researched and created a single-page spread of this great author as well as making inference from the text particularly about two characters Roald Dahl did not write favourably about - Mrs Pratchett and Captain Hardcastle. PE, this term, has seen the children taking part in Dodgeball - building strategies for good teamwork. In PSHE, Year 5/6 have been discussing different scenarios and assessing the level of risk and who can help us if we feel at risk.

attendance and Lateness

135 pupils have maintained 100% attendance so far this academic year.

Current whole school attendance is 96%.

Our attendance figures for week 1 of Term 2 were as follows. Miss Tucker's class took the top spot!

During the last school week, we had _18_ incidences of lateness. This is a disappointing increase on the last weekly figure of 15. Our Pastoral Support Team are continuing to make phone calls and hold meetings to try to improve this for our children.

Please be reminded that doors open at 8:45 and registration is at 9:00. This gives you 15 minutes to be early and have a calm start to the day.

Meet the team

Meet Miss Coleman our Behaviour Mentor

Hello!!! My name is Miss Coleman and I am the Behaviour Mentor at Metheringham Primary School. I am based in 'The Den' or as the children like to call it “The fun room”. I started this role in September and prior to this I was the Learning and Family Support Mentor here for 5 years.

My new role is exciting and incredibly rewarding helping and supporting all the children in school. I believe that all behaviours are a form of communication and I am very passionate in helping children regulate their emotions to make school an enjoyable and positive experience for them.

I have 2 children of my own and when I am not at school, you will find me outside in the fresh air where I spend most of my time with my daughter and our horse, Summer, who a lot of the children will have heard lots about. I believe the great outdoors is a wonderful way to support our emotional health and well-being. When I’m not at the farm, I am at the gym keeping fit and healthy where I go with my son who puts me through my paces.

TTRockstars

Every child from Year 3 upwards has a TTRockstars account which can be accessed in school or at home via the website TTRockstars

Each issue we will list the latest leader board for Times Tables Rockstars. To get on the leader board, you need to play 'studio' on TTRockstars and you need to play at least ten times.

Well, Mrs Duggin got the shock of her life when she saw this week's leaderboard! Mr Edwards must have seen her challenge last week and has worked hard to knock some of the pupils off the top ten and take a place for himself!! We CANNOT let this happen.....let's get him off!!

Well done to everyone (apart from Mr Edwards!) who managed to shake up the leaderboard this week.

chill and chat

Mrs Bates, Mrs Thackray and the Pastoral Support Team were so pleased with the turn out at the Chill and Chat session for Services Families. It was lovely to get feedback, work together and for families to find out about the support on offer for children in school.

Mrs Bates has also started her Bluey Club this week with the support of Mrs Thackray. The children had a great time together and established new connections.

bank Holiday

In light of the announcement of His Majesty’s coronation on Saturday 6 May 2023, an additional bank holiday has been announced on Monday 8 May. Settings that are normally closed on a bank holiday should close on this day. This will include schools and colleges.

This is advanced notice that Metheringham Primary School will be closed on Monday 8th May.

Achieve

Well done to these two superstars on their Kick Boxing grading this week. It's lovely to hear about your achievement.
