Lower Key Stage Two We’ve had a wonderful and very busy week in LSK2! The children thoroughly enjoyed taking part in our World Book Day celebrations. They had a fantastic time reading with their book buddies and showed great enthusiasm during the World Book Day quiz, where the competition became very lively!
This week, the children have been developing their skills in pop lacrosse and have been working hard during our fitness circuits. They have shown great determination as they try to improve their scores each week.
In science, we have been learning about habitats and exploring how seasonal changes can affect the plants and animals in our environment. We discussed how different times of the year can change the way living things find food, shelter, and survive.
We have been learning about volcanoes and the processes that cause them to form. We worked together in teams to create model volcanoes and had great fun making them erupt.
In maths, we have been busy looking at measurements. We have been converting between different units of measurements, adding and subtracting lengths and learning how to measure perimeters.
Upper Key Stage Two It’s been another jam-packed week of fun and learning in UKS2! The Year 6 children have just about come down from the excitement of their recent residential and have quickly settled back into the busy rhythm of school life.
In science, the children have been exploring the question: Who was Carl Linnaeus and why was his work significant? They discovered how his system for classifying living things helps scientists organise and identify plants and animals, and why his ideas are still important today.
In Religion and Worldviews, thoughtful discussions have continued around this term’s enquiry question: Is Christianity still a strong religion over 2000 years after Jesus was on Earth? The children have been sharing their ideas, considering different viewpoints and reflecting on the influence of Christianity in the modern world.
Our Talk for Writing (T4W) English explanation journey also continued this week. The children have been busy writing an information page about their own invented dragon. They have been developing key literacy skills, including engaging the reader, organising ideas into clear paragraphs, using technical language, and applying modal verbs to explain cause and effect.
In maths, the children continue to build their “mathematical brain library”. This week they have been practising multiplying and dividing decimals by integers, as well as exploring equivalent fractions and decimals.
Another fantastic week of curiosity, creativity and hard work in UKS2—well done everyone! ✨
