Foundation Stage Children in Foundation Stage have begun their Maths learning. They have been learning to find things that match and explain what is the same and what is different, using new vocabulary.
Key Stage One KS1 have had a wonderful week full of learning and fun! In Art, we have enjoyed drawing our self-portraits experimenting with different types of pencils and pastels in our sketchbooks, and in History we have learnt so many facts about the Great Fire of London, we have written diary entries like we were there! Year 1s especially look forward to our Monday music sessions with the Lincolnshire Music Service - a definite highlight of the week!
Lower Key Stage Two The children in Year 3 and 4 have settled into their new classes well and their learning is really starting to shine. The multiplication challenge has been embraced well. The children are enjoying a sense of pride when working through the multiplication facts. This week the children have loved learning their story maps for The Old Mill- a suspense story which they will use as a guide for their own writing. The science investigations are also in full swing. The children loved exploring magnets and finding out more about how magnets work. Well done everyone.
Upper Key Stage Two Upper Key Stage 2 have had a busy and exciting few weeks filled with learning, new challenges and plenty of discoveries! The main focus this week has been Bikeability! The children have shown fantastic resilience and determination as they developed their cycling skills. They have learned how to ride safely on the road, showing awareness of other road users and building confidence for independent journeys in the future. In Science, the children have been exploring the fascinating topic of properties and changes in materials; testing which solids dissolve. They have been asking great questions and thinking like real scientists. Our Talk 4 Writing focus has been RED, where pupils have been busy learning the model text, exploring vocabulary and practising actions to help them remember key sections. This is helping to build both confidence and creativity in their writing. In History, UKS2 have stepped back in time to study the Ancient Greeks, finding out when this incredible civilisation began and how it shaped so many aspects of the world we live in today. Meanwhile in PSHE, discussions have centred around respect: what it looks like in everyday life and why it is such an important two-way skill. The children have reflected on how respect is shown not only through words but also through actions. Finally, in Computing, children have been thinking about the role of computer systems in our lives. From communication and entertainment to learning and problem-solving, they have been amazed at how technology impacts almost everything we do. It’s been a jam-packed term so far in UKS2 – and it’s safe to say, it really is all going on!
195 pupils have maintained 100% attendance so far this academic year.

We are excited to introduce this year’s newly elected School Councillors! Following a democratic process, each class voted carefully to choose the children they felt would best represent their voices and ideas. The School Council plays a very important role in our school community, sharing the thoughts of their classmates, helping to make decisions, and leading projects that make our school an even better place to learn and grow. We are very proud of our councillors and look forward to seeing the positive difference they will make this year.
Our new Y5 Junior Road Safety Officers (JRSO's) joined our experienced Y6 members to meet Mrs Garfoot from the Lincolnshire Road Safety Partnership. They are looking forward to carrying out their very important role of helping to keep our school community safe on the roads.
We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to all the parents and carers who joined us for our recent Maths Morning for Macmillan. It was wonderful to see so many of you engaging with your children in their maths learning.
We also truly appreciate everyone who attended or baked/bought cakes for our Macmillan Coffee Morning. Together, we raised funds for this important cause, showing the incredible community spirit that makes our school so special.

Our Harvest Festival will take place on Thursday 9th October.
We would like to invite the Parents and Carers of our new Reception pupils to join us for this event in school. Unfortunately, due to limited space, we cannot open this to all parents.
We are asking pupils to bring in food donations for the Sleaford Community Larder. Any donations are welcome over the next few weeks. Please send them into school with your child if you are able to help.
We have three school rules; ready, respectful and safe. Everyone follows these rules to ensure our school is a welcoming, safe and happy place to learn. At Metheringham, 'We do what is right because it's the right thing to do.'
Here's what our pupils had to say about the start of the school year during some pupil interviews this week:
Reception- 'All of my teachers help me'. 'I love school and learning.'
Year 1- 'I am new to school and everyone has been kind, it's a nice place to be.'
Year 3- 'I can speak to anyone in school and they will help me if I have a problem.'
Year 4- 'I just love being at school. They are the best days.'
This year, we will be continuing our relationship with Premier Education to support our PE and Sports curriculum in school. Through the year, your child will meet Mr Harper and Mr Rigby who will deliver PE sessions or extra-curricular clubs alongside school staff.
Parent teacher consultations will take place on:

Thursday 16th October
Teachers will meet parents in the school hall for 10 minute appointments. These will focus on transition, well-being and starting points for this academic year. You will also have time to look at your child's learning books outside their classrooms.
Appointment request forms will be sent home on Friday 26th September and should be returned to school by Monday 6th October.
We are a cashless school and therefore all parents must be signed up to ParentPay in order to pay for school trips, make donations on fundraising days and to access extra-curricular clubs. If you are struggling with access, please pop in and see us.
A very happy Teaching Assistant Day to our incredible team. I'm sure you'll all agree that they are invaluable to our children and they make our school sparkle.
