Hi everyone!
I'm so excited to work with you in the District II Orchestra Festival in April!
My name is Mr. Muise, and I teach orchestra in the Mt. Blue School system in and around Farmington.
I teach orchestra in grades 3-12, and I also created an afterschool fiddling program as well for students at the MS and HS.
I like to play a lot of different styles of music, and I also like to improvise, and I'm excited to share some
ideas with you at the festival! Here's a video of me playing some improvisation using a looper pedal and 5-string violin.
We're going to be playing 3 pieces: (Click on the titles for YouTube videos)
Impulse - Brian Balmages
Colossus - Larry Clark
Pepperoni Pizza Rock - Brian Balmages
Can you find some other examples of our songs to listen to and play along with on YouTube on your own?
Here are some other suggestions of great string players that improvise, these play mostly in the jazz style:
Regina Carter (violin)
Nora Germain (violin)
Marta Petrovik (viola)
Yeemz (cello)
Christian McBride (bass, and walking bass lines)
Can you find some other string musicians that improvise that could inspire you on YouTube?
You can find people that improvise in fiddling (bluegrass, etc.), rock, jazz and more.
There will be an opportunity for you to play solos on "Pepperoni Pizza Rock", that will be so much fun!
Here's a resource for how to start sololing on "Pepperoni Pizza Rock" - check it out:

Start working on your music as soon as you get it, and I'm really looking forward to seeing you at the festival in April!
Sincerely, Mr. Muise 🤓
