My name is Dana Steele and I have been teaching science for over 30 years and I have a Master's Degree in Secondary Science Education, in the area of Biology.
I will do my best to send weekly emails to give you the specifics about each week's assignments. If you allow notifications from Canvas, you can see if your kids have any missing work. (Trust, but verify!) For grades, use the district LMS system. I want to offer you as much support as I can as we tackle this learning year.
If you have concerns of any sort, be sure to email me at dsteele@everettsd.org.
Tips for Parents for supporting their high schoolers:
Encourage a regular routine for your kids Monday - Friday, so they can have weekends off to recharge.
Help them find a place to be on their chrome book with minimal distractions, if they have homework.
Trust them to do their work, but also check LMS/Canvas so you can ask why there is a missing assignment, if you see one.
If they seem overwhelmed, please make them take breaks. We all need to get outside and off the computer each day.
Have them email me when they get too stuck to figure assignments out. Communication is key - if they don't tell me they need help, I won't always know!
