Week 1: Shoebox Community

Using materials provided, students will create their own “mini-store” in the form of a shoebox diorama following exploration and learning key concepts of what it means to be a community, how businesses can play a crucial role in a community, and how those who live in a community interact with businesses. The store can be one based on an existing business, or one made up entirely!

Week 2: Advocating Animal Rights - Flipbook Animation

Using Flip Anim or Brush Ninja, students will create a flipbook-style animation about the importance of advocating for animal rights! This project will follow exploration of what animal rights advocacy is, why it is important, and what we can do to raise awareness for the issue, as well as learning about concepts and the process of simple 2-D animation!am

week 3: Scratch Storyline Animation

Using the free online programming software “Scratch”, students will create a storyline animation about any topic or story of their choosing, whether based on a story that already exists, or something entirely made up on their own! This project will give students the creative freedom to explore their own methods of storytelling, and teach students how to use simple processes of programming to create their own short-story animations!

Week 4 & 5: Building a Disaster Survival Kit

After learning about concepts, causes, and types of natural disasters, students will create and assemble their own “Disaster Survival Kit” using materials provided, which they will fill it with supplies they feel are necessary for the event of a natural disaster. Students will be asked to come up with and create one or two things they think might be helpful in their own kits!
