Who Can Apply?
A doctoral student in their 1st-2nd year of graduate study, or an incoming doctoral student committed to be trained in an NRT mentor lab. For students in their 3rd year, inquire with the program.
What are the required application materials?
Applicants should compile the following three documents into a single PDF and send it to mayanrui@msu.edu. Applications that do not follow the instructions will not be reviewed.

What are Trainee’s responsibilities?
Participate in NRT program activities, including the 3 Core courses and Weekly Cohort Meeting associated with the program
Complete the annual NSF survey in a timely fashion
Plan and participate in the annual symposium (cost covered by program).
Participate in a one semester internship opportunity (generically over summer).
Join the out-reach presentation unless precluded by documented scheduling conflicts.
Participate in the NRT program related seminars, short courses, professional development activities and scientific communication courses unless precluded by documented scheduling conflicts.
Provide an annual progress report and a status update on progress toward degree.
[Optional but encouraged] Submit manuscripts to the preprint server.
Acknowledge NRT support in any publication/presentation.
Work collaboratively to define and carry out NRT-related interdisciplinary research projects.
What do the Trainees get from NRT-AIDMM?
Short courses on cutting-edge topics.
Core coursework leading to a graduate certificate.
An internship at a partner site.
Training in oral presentation, writing, and scientific communication skills.
Inclusion of partners in trainee’s guidance committees.
One year fellowship funding: $34,000 for fall/spring/summer support in year one or two of the program.
Team building among cohort members through social events!
Review procedures and criteria:
Reviewed by the Executive Committee on the basis of question, interdisciplinarity, feasibility etc.

Award announcement: May 10, 2024 (EST)
