Human & Veterinary Cells
Histology is the study of microscopic structure of cells which compose tissue structures and organ systems. In order to visualize the structures in human and veterinary tissues, sections need to be stained with Hematoxylin and Eosin.
Hematoxylin and Eosin (H&E) stain is the principal stain in histology and the most widely used stain in the visualization of tissue morphology and prokaryotic cellular structure.
Hematoxylin stains nuclei blue and eosin stains the extracellular matrix and cytoplasm pink. Other tissue structures takes on varying shades, hues, and combinations of these colors.
Plant Cells
Histology is the study of microscopic structure of organelles which compose meristematic cells, parenchyma cells, collenchyma cells, sclerenchyma cells and reproductive cells. Cells are composed of many organelles, in order to visualize the structures in plant samples, sections need to be stained with Toluidine Blue, Alcian Blue, and Safranin-Green techniques.
Toluidine Blue pH 6.8 can be the principal stain in histology and the most widely used stain in the visualization of cellular morphology in eurkaryotic cellular structures. Lignan stains blue to blue-green, pectins stain pink, nuclei stain blue to greenish-blue.
Alcian Blue primarily stain acidic polysaccharides like pectins in the cell wall appearing blue in color.
Safranin Stains are red for the xylem and fast green stains green for the phloem.
