TE 842: Elementary Reading Assessment and Instruction
Fall 2020
Professor: Laura Tortorelli
This course was the first class I took in my MAED program. The focus of this course was to review the research and literature involving effective reading assessment and instruction. Throughout this course I read and practiced the most effective reading assessments for early elementary classrooms. Additionally, I came to understand the importance behind teaching phonemic awarenesss along with a progressional phonectic pattern.
TE 836: Awards and Classics in Children's Literature
Spring 2021
Professor: Hannah Grisham
The focus of this class was to review awards in children's literature such as the Caldecott award. Additionally we reviewed classic novels such as Peter Pan, and critically examined the impact that these classics have on their audience. This class taught me how important it is to detach from our own perspective while reading literature. It also taught me the importance of stepping out of our comfort zone to comprehend text through different lenses.
TE 846: Accommodating Differences in Literacy Learners
Summer 2021
Professor: Raven Jones, Ph.D.
The focus of this class was to learn the most effective teaching methods that accommodate the different needs of individual literacy learners. In this class, I had to perform a case study with one of students where I implemented reading assessments along with differentiated instruction in order to help him grow as a reader. This class truly helps you learn how to differentiate instruction for your students. The case study format makes the class practical and immedietly effective.
TE 861B: Inquiry, Nature of Science
Fall 2021
Professor: Amelia Gotwals, Ph.D.
This course was heavily focused on fostering a true mind of inquiry. Throughout the course, we discovered new and old methods of inquiry and tested them out in our classrooms. This class teaches you how to help your students ask questions. This was a very practical class that helped me learn the importance of helping students think, observe, and wonder.
Summer 2022
Professor: Steven Weiland
This course covered the history of education and the impact that technology is having on it. The reading content of the course is dense, but for good reason. Throughout this course, we read many articles on American Psychologist John Dewey and generated our own thoughts on his work. At the heart of this course, is learning the history of education and the impact education has on society.
CEP 841: Classroom Management in Inclusive Classrooms
Summer 2022
Professor: Troy Marriage, Ph.D.
This course was the most beneficial course I took throughout my program. This class was rooted in teaching students social skills, building relationships, and handling complex behavior challenges in an inclusive classroom. Throughout this course I learned how to teach students what behaviors look, sound, and feel like so they can be learned by different learners. At the heart of this course, is learning how to be a great instructor who builds authentic relationships with his or her students.
CEP 800: Psychology of Learning in School and Other Settings
Summer 2023
Professor: Ron Houtman
This course was rooted in understanding the psychology behind how students learn in school and other students. This class makes you question the little details in teaching that make all the difference. In this class we studied different types of instruction and the why behind them. Throughout the course we made slideshows, such as this one, to present different modes of instruction.
CEP 822: Approaches to Educational Research
Summer 2023
Professor: David Wong, Ph.D.
This class was focused on learning how to read scholarly research articles well. The main focus of the course was finding a common misconception within our professional field and finding research that help answer that common misconception. The great part about this class is that each student was able to read articles that were entirely related to their own field. The culmination of this course was
TE 848: Writing Assessment and Instruction
Spring 2024
Profesor Janine Certo
This course focused on learning how to effectively teach writing to elementary students. Throughout the course, we dived into the importance of teaching to students to know their audience and generate questions about their topic within a variety of genres. Additionally, we had to create our own works of writing. The culmination of this course was a final paper that covered the best practices in writing instruction.

This course was focused on creating this professional website which you are viewing right now! Throughout the course I learned a lot about web design and reviewed all the major take aways from my MAED program. This class is filled with reflection and feedback. The final project of the course was presenting and publishing this website.
