In Mehlville FLEX, students have the opportunity to demonstrate proficiency in the program competencies through relevant evidence. This is achieved through a process of regular feedback and reflection with multiple opportunities to show growth.
Our goal for students is to become competent in each course, as demonstrated by consistent, proficient evidence for each skill assessed.
Each student may reach this competency at different times and in different ways. Our program is intended to offer multiple opportunities to reach mastery, emphasizing growth throughout this semester. For this reason, we do not average points throughout a semester or rely upon a percentage system.
Throughout the semester, a student (and guardians) should reflect upon progress based on where they are with their competencies and their individual goals. If a student is not yet meeting proficiency, this is an opportunity to identify areas for growth and figure out ways in which to do so. This could be revision on an individual assignment under the guidance of their teacher, or improved performance on the next assessment over the same skill.
All coursework and projects submitted need to be original work reflecting the skills, ability, and content knowledge of the student.
Letter grade conversion (A, B, C, D, F) will occur at the quarter progress report and semester transcript grade. The progress report will offer a snapshot, based on what has been assessed so far, with the understanding that more competencies will be assessed, in addition to reassessing current competencies. Both progress report and semester letter grades will be reported in infinite Campus.
A
The student has earned proficient at least half of the times on each of the course competencies assessed during the semester, including an appropriate amount of extending.
An “appropriate amount of "extending” will be defined by individual courses and communicated to students by class teachers. See table below.
B
The student has earned proficient at least half of the times on each of the course competencies assessed during the semester.
C
The student has earned proficient at least half of the times on more than half of the competencies assessed during the semester, with the remaining competencies having more approaching than beginning and no “no evidence.”
D
The student has earned approaching or better at least half of the times on more than half of the competencies assessed during the semester, and no “no evidence.”
May be submitted as Incomplete on transcript at the end of 1st semester with letter grade to be determined by improvements made on 1st semester course work during 2nd semester.
If no improvements are made, the D becomes the 1st semester letter grade.
F
The student has earned beginning or “no evidence” more than half of the times on more than half of the competencies assessed during the semester.
May be submitted as Incomplete on transcript at the end of 1st semester with letter grade to be determined by 2nd semester course work.
If no improvements are made, the F becomes the 1st semester letter grade.
Sufficient evidence may be demonstrated through repeat performance or sufficient growth on single competencies. This can be seen on the Assignment Rating Explorer feature on Mastery Book.
More recent evidence has greater relevance than evidence produced earlier in the year.
Some assessments or projects may carry greater weight than others.
