Kristin Wallace: AVID Elective

Welcome to Ms. Wallace's 6th-8th grade AVID elective class!  This is an elective course that prepares students for college and career readiness.  Essential skills such as critical thinking, collaboration, reading, writing, and relationship building are areas we will focus on throughout the year to help students design their own future.

The standards for this course are organized around 3 components: Rigorous Academic Preparedness, Opportunity Knowledge, and Student Agency.  Students will participate in activities that incorporate strategies focused on writing, inquiry, collaboration, organization, and reading (WICOR) to support their academic growth.  AVID class will focus on building self-confidence and communication skills. College and career awareness will increase through guest-speaker presentations, field-trip opportunities, and research assignments.
