Hello and welcome to the 2020/2021 School Year!! My name is Sally Johnson. Students call me Ms. J. Art will look different this year as I am coming to each classroom to teach. My Art room was needed for an extended regular education classroom for this year.
I like to think of our Art Curriculum as a series of building blocks. Starting out in Kindergarten, we build a strong base of art terms, skills and knowledge. Each grade level continues to add to this base of blocks by incorporating more complex skills and artistic terms. This year we will study concepts/units such perspective, balance, basic drawings, design, color. Each grade level will explore and experiment with these skills until they are comfortable with using them.
In addition, I focus on specific artists in each grade level so students are exposed to art history.
I frequently integrate with classroom teachers on projects that your child might be studying in such areas as math, science, social studies, and or Literature. It is exciting to see these projects link in with classroom instructors and their units of particular units of study.
I will be needing to use the supplies that you will be providing your student on the general school supply list so that we limit sharing of materials (in the past years I used the art room supplies). I will be following all specific protocols for sanitizing and keeping the students safe in all the classrooms.
Please feel free to call or email me with any questions that you might have.
