When emailing instructors, DO:
Use your student email account.
Include your first and last name and the course and section you are in.
Read the syllabus and check your Blackboard announcements or email for the information first.
Allow at least 48 hours for a response before following up.
Be succinct and include a subject, greeting, and closing.
Use complete sentences and check for grammatical errors. Use this opportunity to practice professional communication.
Consider your tone. Think about the impression your tone will make. Use a tone of inquiry and respect.
When emailing instructors, DON'T:
Forget to read and reread your email before sending it.
Ask for information that can be found in the syllabus or Blackboard.
Wait until an assignment is due or past due before asking a question.
Be vague. State who you are, what the issue or question is, and what you need from the instructor.
Use improper titles. When in doubt, check your syllabus or the email signature of your instructor.
Forget to attach any necessary files.
