FAFSA FAQ

Q: Do I need to complete a FAFSA every year?

A: Yes. A new FAFSA is needed each academic year. An academic year begins with the fall semester and runs through the end of the summer semester of the following calendar year.

Q: When do I need to complete my FAFSA?

A: The FAFSA opens on October 1st. The sooner you complete the FAFSA, the more likely you are to be eligible for limited state grants.

Q: How do I know if MSC received my FAFSA?

A: Check the receipt of your FAFSA and track the status of your financial aid award in Aggies Online under the Financial Aid tab.

Q: How do I get help completing my FAFSA?

A: Your financial aid advisor or academic advisor can refer you to an Educational Opportunity Center counselor in your area for FAFSA assistance.

Q: My Student Aid Report says that I am eligible for work-study and student loans. Do I automatically get those?

A: No. Work-study positions are limited and interested students must complete an application with the Financial Aid Office. Loans require extra steps such as completing a loan request form, master promissory note, and entrance counseling. All of these are available in Aggies Online.

Q: Is it too late to complete my FAFSA?

A: Not necessarily. MSC must receive your FAFSA information before the last day of the semester to receive aid for that semester.

Q: I have more questions. How can I get help?

A: Contact your financial aid advisor or visit studentaid.gov for more information.
