I have been part of Best Friends' Veggies, an organic garden and vegetable stand, since I was born.
This year, I have decided to record our process in order to teach people about gardening in Maine.
History of Best Friends' Veggies
My grandfather had gardens for a long time. In 2013, when my sister was born, she started "helping" him in the garden. At the time, she was an only child and our grandmother babysat her, so she did not socialize with lots of people. To help her to get over being so shy, our grandparents decided to start a veggie stand so that she could learn to interact with people. When I was born three years later, I joined the family business. Not only do we sell our vegetables at our stand, but we also enter them in the Skowhegan Fair.
Best Friends' Veggies has helped my sister and I to not only interact with customers, but it has also taught us to work hard for our money (all of which gets split between us and deposited into our bank accounts for college). The best part is that we get to work together as a family!
My first of many displays
Picking (and eating) the fruits and vegetables throughout the summer and fall is a big job.
We sell what we don't eat at our little veggie stand to make money for college. We love our loyal and friendly customers!
