Mrs. Delorie is the Librarian/ School Media Specialist at Benton Elementary School Library. Maine. She is working towards her Masters of Library Science at the University of South Carolina, and holds a Masters in the Art of Teaching from the University of Maine. She also holds a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism from the University of Maine. Before becoming a Media Specialist, Amanda taught grades five and six in the elementary setting for 14 years. Amanda has served as media specialist for three years, and is working towards creating a culture of literacy and inquiry in the school community. In addition to classroom teaching, Amanda has served on various professional committees aimed at curriculum development, lesson development, and assessment. She was also a vocal member of the school climate committee, pushing for the adoption of Responsive Classroom and Restorative Justice principles in her school community.
When she is not engaging in literacy/ library activities or grad school work, she is spending time with her husband, her 8-year-old son, and with their puppy, Ginny (as in the Harry Potter character!). The family loves being outside playing in the lake, exploring in the woods, and swinging on a backyard Ninja rig. Mrs. Delorie’s family also does Crossfit workouts and Spartan races together!
Ms. Smedberg is the Library Assistant at the Benton Elementary School Library. She has an Associates Degree in Liberal Arts and an Associates Degree in Autism. She has been working in the district since 2003. She worked in the Positive Learning Support program in the junior and senior high school before coming to Benton in 2014. She continued to work in the PLS program until the end of 2018 when a position became available in the Library. She loves working in the library helping students find a 'just right' book. She is a woman of many hats here at Benton and knows every student’s name.
When she is not at school, she loves to be home with her four dogs and two adult children. She loves to crochet for others, going on rides that she decides as she goes and going to student’s events.
