Position Descriptions:

Roberts Farm Video Internship (Spring)

This internship will involve content creation to support the educational programs at Roberts Farm Experiential Learning. This project will involve capturing footage of students at Roberts Farm and interviews with students and staff as well as editing footage to create a couple of short videos.

Western Foothills Land Trust Internship (Spring)

The internship will include projects to help Western Foothills Land Trust improve trail experiences for users by creating trail information guides and helping the organization identify areas that need improvement.  There will be a lot of outside work but also the internship will require use of mapping technology and producing written work.

LEA Water Testing Internship (Summer)

LEA's Water Testing Interns travel to various lakes and ponds, collecting water samples, Secchi readings and dissolved oxygen profiles, before returning to the lab to filter chlorophyll, and test pH, conductivity and alkalinity. Previous canoeing experience is preferred but not required.

This position involves 35 hours a week throughout the summer.

Lakes Association of Norway Internship (Summer)

The Lakes Association of Norway offers a composite opportunity for a summer internship. There would be three components. About 20 of the intern’s weekly hours would be spent as a Courtesy Boat Inspector (CBI) – keeping visiting boats from inadvertently carrying an invasive aquatic species into a Lake. The remaining hours would be spent on two other components of the job: removing shoreline invasive plants, and erosion control. These are a bit more physical, but not overly strenuous. As a developmental supplement, the intern could volunteer to assist in water quality testing under the guidance our state qualified water quality team, led by a PhD Marine biologist. This position would be of interest for an individual with interests in protecting lake resources and aquatic biology.

This internship is full-time for the summer.

Trail Building Internship (Summer)

The main focus of our trail work is to make available the local trails to increase ease of use and access. The current trails (besides the healthy Oxford hills section) has been falling into disrepair. Workers will help move materials, clear brush and debris, mitigate runoff and soil erosion.  If we have time and funding we will also build shelters near the river if allowed for outdoor learning spaces.

This internship will involve a commitment of 24 hours.

Wandering Root Farm Internship (Summer)

Wandering Root Farm is a small-scale certified organic vegetable farm. This position is perfect for someone who is interested in learning about how a vegetable farm operation is run. You will be involved in all aspects of the farm from seeding, weeding, harvesting and beyond.

Likely schedule:

Thursdays 8am-12pm (harvest, wash/pack station)

Fridays 8am-2pm (harvest, wash/pack station, field work)

Saturdays 9am-12pm (farmers market)

School Garden Caretaking Internship (Summer)

Interns will travel as a team with a staff member two full days per week for six weeks to visit school gardens at each of the eight elementary schools in the district. At the school gardens, interns will water, weed, and harvest to ensure that plots are maintained throughout the summer months so when each school's students arrive in the fall they are able to reap the benefits of their spring planting.

This internship will involve a commitment of two days a week over 6 weeks of the summer.

McLaughlin Garden Internship (Summer)

Student interns will have the opportunity to grow crops both through traditional agricultural practices (i.e. monocropping and tilling), as well as permanent agriculture practices-- which utilize plantings of multiple different species in permaculture "guilds". Interns will assist in the design, construction, and weekly maintenance of garden beds managed with these two contrasting strategies.

This position could involve 20 hours a week from mid-April through August.

Youth Leadership Program Internship (Summer)

Roberts Farm Experiential Learning and the Alan Day Community Garden are excited to be offering Youth Internship opportunities to support the 2024 Youth Leadership Program. Positions are available at Roberts Farm and the Alan Day Community Garden. These positions are open to students who are ready to further their skills in leadership and gardening while gaining real work experience. Preference will be given to Former Youth Leadership Program participants.
