Welcome to the Nurse's Office
Mainely Teeth will return for the 2025-26 school year!
Mainely Teeth will set up a mobile dental clinic at GAHS this fall and return for 6 month follow-up appointments in the spring. This clinic is open to all students who are not receiving regular dental services, regardless of insurance.
Please return the consent form below to reserve your spot!
Please do not send your child to school if they are not well. Students that become ill during the school day will be assessed by the school nurse and receive appropriate care and supervision in the nurse’s office. A parent or responsible adult listed on the Emergency Information form will been contacted if the student needs to go home. Your child may return to school once symptoms have resolved without the use of medications for 24 hours.
In accordance with Maine Department of Health and Human Services guidelines from the Center for Disease Control, a child should not attend school or will be dismissed if the student has one or more of the following symptoms:
Fever: a fever is defined as having an body temperature of 100.0 degrees or higher.
Diarrhea: frequent passage of watery, loose bowel movements within 24 hours prior to the start of school.
Vomiting: within 24 hours prior to the start of school.
Severe coughing: persistent coughing causing child to not be able to concentrate on work.
Sore Throat: if accompanied by a fever or if child is unable to eat or swallow.
Ear ache: if accompanied by a fever or if child is in moderate to severe pain.
Possible conjunctivitis: red eye with mucous drainage. If conjunctivitis is confirmed students need to be on antibiotics for 24 hours before returning to school.
Rash: unexplained rash with fever or if rash is open and draining. Child can return to school once a physician has determined the illness is not contagious and fever is gone.
Strep Throat: need to be fever free and on antibiotics for 24 hours.
Impetigo: needs to be on antibiotics for 24 hours, if not on antibiotics lesions should be dry and not draining.
Children with the above symptoms or illnesses cannot comfortably participate in school work and expose peers and staff to their illness. Students should be fever-free without the aid of fever-reducing medication, such as Acetaminophen or Ibuprofen for 24 hours before returning to school.

Distance Vision Screening
State of Maine Department of Education requires periodic health screenings to identify students that may have hearing or vision deficit. Distance vision screening is completed on 9th grade students. Students who do not pass the screening will be referred for an eye exam.
ORAL HEALTH
We are pleased to inform you that we will continue our partnership with Mainely Teeth, to provide dental services to the students of MSAD 11. During the school year, a Mainely Teeth hygienist will provide routine dental screenings, preventive services and simple dental treatments to students who are eligible and have been signed up ahead of time. Mainely teeth will provide these services to our students once during the school year. If you would like your child to receive routine preventative care every 6 months, please call (207)808-9498 to schedule an appointment at their office located at 94 Washington Ave. in Portland, ME.
Your child is eligible to receive this service if they have not received routine, preventive dental care in the last 6 months. If you already have a dentist/dental home for your child that you would like to continue going to, but are still interested in having your child seen at school by Mainely Teeth, please contact Mainely Teeth (207)808-9498 for further information before signing your child up. Most children’s dental needs can be met at these school visits, but Mainely Teeth will work with your family to schedule further treatments if necessary.
Dental insurance, including MaineCare, will be billed for this service if your child has it. If your child does not have dental insurance and you would like your child to receive care, Mainely Teeth will still provide all services indicated. Please ensure the Insurance Verification Form is fully completed. If Mainely Teeth is having issues submitting a claim and is unable to verify your child’s insurance with you after 1 attempted contact, you will receive a bill in the mail for the services rendered. If the Insurance Verification Form is left blank, you will receive a bill for the services rendered.
