Book Art Assessment at GAHS!
Thanks to the efforts of former colleagues, Sharon Gallant (Science) and Debra Butterfield (Library), GAHS teachers have access to quality art supplies exclusively for classroom book art projects. Book art is an innovative assessment strategy that can be incorporated into any curriculum. It is an excellent hands-on approach for teaching skills such as literacy, research, math, organization/design, drafting, and social skills.
Students often feel a greater sense of accomplishment seeing a finished book that they spent time and effort creating than a traditional paper or essay. These positive feelings are amplified when it is time to share the finished products with the public - by permission - at the annual MSAD #11 Art Extravaganza in May!
The supply room, located within the library behind the copier, has all the materials needed for these three projects and more! Other book project ideas can be found in Sharon Gallant’s Black Box of Books on the first table in the supply room. Other ideas can be found in the multiple book art books in our library collection.
Thank you for your help ensuring these supplies are only used for book art projects. Please contact Lori Gingras, (Room 102, Lower C-Wing) for assistance with deciding on a specific project, art supplies, and paper selection.
