Guidance Regarding Virtual Instruction and Recording Instruction
Effective October 11, the State of Maine adopted a new law entitled LD 864 "Protect Teachers' Privacy While Delivering Remote Instruction." This law follows guidance offered to Maine schools during the 2020-21 school year and adds a civil offense and fine to the expectation.
This law prohibits a person from distributing or retransmitting any recording of remote instruction unless the person has the express written consent of the District. This applies to audio or visual transmission of a teacher providing instruction, whether real time or recorded. Violators of the law may be subject to a civil fine between $200 and $500.
