Wish Week is starting up for the Liberty Lancers and is being hosted and run by student council members this year. Wish Week is where the entire school (administration, students, parents, and teachers) raises money for kids with cancer to make their one big wish come true. It's a week full of fundraisers and activities for the students to interact with and all that money goes to donations for the kids.
Senior student council member, Cami Simental, exclaims “Make a Wish is an organization that helps bring wishes that kids have. Such as going to Disney, or getting a new swing set. Those wishes are made through donations and that's why we have wish week. It helps schools raise money for our specific kid, Berkley. Make a Wish brings back childhood to the kid and normalcy back to the family."
The kid Liberty is fundraising for is Berkley who is 4-years-old and her favorite colors are pink and purple. She loves french fries, McDonalds, ice cream, goldfish, chips, singing, Moana, elemental, Encanto, Disney, dogs Gabby's Dollhouse, sliding at the park, swimming, and being outside.
Berkeley was born with Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome which is a heart defect that has caused the left side of her heart to be underdeveloped and unable to function without surgical intervention. She has had four open heart surgeries in all with her most recent one being July of 2024 and her first one being at only five days old.
These surgeries have caused complications, including a blood clotting disorder, strokes, feeding issues and feeding tubes, and developmental disabilities. Berkley chose Disney World because not only does she love Disney characters with her favorite being Mickey and Moana, but she's started recently saying that she wants to be Mickey when she grows up.
As Make-A-Wish comes to a close, we have raised a lot of money in the hope of helping Berkley achieve her dreams of going to Disneyland.
