On Wednesday April 23, Seniors recognized the people close to them in the annual capping ceremony. The event was held in the gym as a way to close out their time in high school.
Previously, this event was held during a senior breakfast, however this year it was moved to the evening, changing the tradition from previous years. The school provided desserts for all attendees, with tickets being $25 per person.
During this event, seniors were able to choose someone they love to place their graduation cap on their head. This event symbolizes a student’s readiness to transition from high school to the next stage of their lives. While recognizing the seniors, this ceremony also gives them a chance to appreciate the people closest to them, and to thank them for being so supportive of their endeavors.
Senior Alex Tran said, “I chose my sister to cap me, she’s someone who has been with me and watched me grow up. She’s someone I aspire to be.”
From the capper’s standpoint, it’s an honor to be someone that is so important to these seniors.
Zach Brown, a teacher here at Liberty, said, “it was really touching, it’s humbling, it’s really an ‘aww’ moment.” when asked how he felt being asked to cap a student.
This is a memorable moment for all parties involved, as it is a supportive atmosphere that reinforces the importance of education and personal growth. For Tran, the most memorable moment was going up on that stage to be capped by his sister. He said it was a moment he would never forget.
As for Brown, the most significant part of the night was watching all of his former students be capped by people that were close to him.
Overall, this event is the perfect way to close out senior year. The seniors were able to have a final send off with those that are close to them.
