Developmental screenings are offered to children birth to five years of age who live in the Mahomet–Seymour School District and have not yet begun kindergarten. Screenings are used to identify potential areas of delay across three main areas of child development - motor skills, concepts and language. Additionally, school staff will ask some questions to determine if a child has any risk factors which might make learning at school difficult.
At Middletown Prairie Elementary, school personnel administer the Dial-4. This screener is designed to identify young children in need of the support or intervention that preschool provides as well as the potential need for further diagnostic assessment. During the screening process, your child will participate in activities related to his/her/their development in the areas of: vocabulary, visual-motor integration, language and speech, fine and gross motor skills, social skills, and cognitive development. In addition, the district nurse will conduct a vision and hearing screening.
The screenings are held at Middletown Prairie Elementary and the process takes between 60-90 minutes. Screening dates for the 2025-26 school year are listed below. Screenings appointments are available between 8:15 and 11:00 a.m. To schedule a screening for your child, please call 217-586-5833.
