MPE Preschool

The Middletown Prairie Preschool Program offers services for children ages 3-5, living within the Mahomet-Seymour School district.  The program is designed to meet the needs of children who have been identified, through a screening process, as meeting Illinois criteria for being considered at-risk or identified as having special needs.

It is a core belief of the teachers and staff at MPE that children learn best through engagement with peers.  Therefore, to provide typically developing peers in each classroom, a tuition-based option is also available, although limited.   If interested, please contact the MPE Office at 217-586-5833.

Children in the program attend the MPE preschool for 2 ½ hours per day with both morning and afternoon sessions available.

Morning Session Hours:  8:00-10:30 a.m.   (Drop off begins at 7:45)

Afternoon Session Hours:  12:00-2:30 p.m.  (Drop off begins at 11:55)

Each classroom is staffed with a licensed early childhood teacher and one teaching assistant.  Classroom instruction is based on the philosophy of learning through play with direct small group instruction at learning centers.  All lessons are aligned to the Illinois Early Learning & Development Standards and prepare children for the transition to kindergarten.  A support services team works with students in the preschool program to provide speech therapy, occupational therapy, physical therapy, and social work to those meeting eligibility requirements.
