Q: Will my email address change when we go to Gmail?

A: Nope. We will all be able to continue to use our firstinitiallastname@mrpk.org email addresses. Our @mrpkedu.org domain will merge into our @mrpk.org domain.

Q: Will I lose my old email, contact, or calendar info?

A: Nope. Your email, calendar, and contacts are all being transferred to your Gmail and Calendar.

Q: When will this take place?

A: We are working with a company to move all that data over to Gmail/Google August 19-23. There will be a small pilot test group of folks who test it the week before to spot any problems.

Q: Will I still use the Outlook program installed on my computer?

A: No. Gmail is completely web-based. There’s nothing to install and you can login to it from any computer/phone/tablet, anywhere, as long as it is connected to the internet.

Q: How do I get to Gmail?

A: The easiest way will be to go to gmail.com.

Q: Will I have to change how I get district mail on my phone?

A: Yes. Directions coming soon

Q: Will there be training or help available for me?

A: YES! That is why this website was built. We know not all staff have a digital device all the time, and some of us like paper a little better, so I will print copies of the Instructional Documents located on each page for the individual Google Apps that you can also download on this website and print for yourself. After the transition if you’d like extra training, please reach out to Tamira, MUSD's Tech TOSA.

Is the trash folder migrating or do we lose it all?

Emails stored directly in the Deleted Items folder will migrate to the Trash label in Gmail. However, in Gmail, anything left in trash will automatically be deleted after 30 days, so if you are using your trash as an archive, I recommend after the migration, creating a label that is called "just in case" or something where you can reserve those emails.

Months from now, when people email me @mrpkedu.org, what will happen to those emails?

The migration path has your old email address as an alias. This ensures that emails, drive shares, calendar invites, etc. all get to the intended recipient.
