I want to thank the Math Department for their generosity with their classroom and time with our Math Integrity Walks. Anytime strangers come into the classroom with clipboards and iPads, it can be an intimidating experience. It was very productive and we learned a lot, and that is directly related to your hard work! Thank you all!
Also, thank you to Joey Balleweg! Joey is being reflective, introspective and also working diligently to create the best possible experience for his students. After school he rushes down to the tennis courts and is helping coach our Girls Tennis team that has over 50 student-athletes! This is a ton of work for a first year teacher and we have been so impressed! Thanks Joey!

Staff Shout Out:
Marianne Hartfelt worked so hard preparing students for the DP Visual Art Showcase and her efforts were evident as the student exhibitions were so beautiful and thought-provoking! I was blown away by the student work and none of that is possible without Marianne's leadership! Also, thank you to the entire Visual Art team (Martha, Lauren, Lizzy) for your hard work in preparing kids over the years for such incredible work.
The exhibition is still up for staff who would like to see it! I have no favorites....but my goodness check out what Makya Rivera produced!

Also, Jessica Powell and the student athletic trainers are doing a great job with our athletic teams in keeping them taped, prepared and being available for any needs that arise! We were able to capture some really great action in classes yesterday with teachers practicing some of the strategies and curricular focuses from Monday. Ron Woods was conducting a collaborative poster activity as an into activity introducing the new unit of study, and building Statements of Inquiry (SOI) in creative ways! Marianne Hartfelt was using and exhibiting an MYP rubric for her students who were working on collages as an introductory activity for the new semester. This gave students an opportunity to move around the room, learn more about their peers and build the culture of the classroom for the new term. Great job everyone!
We will be trying to highlight multiple teachers from different departments every week in response to the feedback we received in the Youth Truth activity from Monday. We hope to be in more classrooms to take photos and witness the great things happening around campus.

We are moving along on our trajectory of creating a school that engenders a sense of meaning and hope to kids. We are far from perfect, but I am consistently overjoyed by how far we have come, and that is squarely on the shoulders of the adults on campus. It cuts adjunct down by quite a bit for the staff and it is great having consistency there. I know it is compensated but it is not much money and there are a TON of nights they are on campus late. Thank you for your hard work and dedication to our students gentlemen!

Great first week! I appreciate the manner in which we approached the all day PD together and way we came together to have honest conversations with one another about our teaching, our students and our time, therefore to start the semester I wanted to shout out the entire team. Making this place the sanctuary for kids we all hope it to be starts with our staff. If we want to see what the student culture is, all we have to do is watch the adult culture, and I am incredibly encouraged because of the way our adults are committed to our students. Thank you for all you do and I hope you have a wonderful weekend.

Thank you to Mr. Wright for continuing to push our ERWC students' thinking! I recently held a student panel for my FLEX and I asked what students' favorite classes were, and one young lady enthusiastically said her ERWC 11th grade class with Mr. Wright. She explained it is her favorite because of the way he makes the content very interesting and fun. That is a tough subject to make come alive, so I wanted to shout out Mr. Wright for making material relevant and meaningful! Thanks for the hard work you do for students!
One more week until our Fall Break! It is imperative we find ways to keep students engaged and focused to the best of our ability. We will only have two weeks before finals upon our return so if there is work students could be getting caught up on during break please be sure to get that to them. This also means it is a ridiculously nutty and difficult time for Robin Coyne as he coordinates student volunteers all week and puts in a ton of extra hours making sure the student learning experience is super in-depth and fun. Thank you for all that you do for our students Robin!!!! I want to see lots of pictures next week!
