About the School Counselor

I am the Norris and Sandoz Elementary school counselor, Mrs. Wyatt. As a school counselor, I work with students to grow tools for academic, social, and career education success. I visit and do classroom lessons with all students several times throughout the school year, and I may work with students individually or in a small group depending on their need.

My mission is to treat each student I encounter with kindness and care, encourage students on their journey, advocate for students as they grow, and collaborate with stakeholders to best support students as they grow into the people they were made to be!

The School Counselor's Role

Ever wonder what a school counselor does? You're in luck! I've attached some information below to help explain where my role fits in the school and the community. This information comes from the American School Counselor Association.

What is SEL?

SEL is an acronym used in education that stands for Social and Emotional Learning. At the elementary level in Millard, the classroom counseling curriculum includes lessons about: being a helper, respect, responsibility, listening and following directions, emotions, kindness, bullying awareness / prevention, trustworthiness, cooperation, perseverance, goal setting, career exploration, and safety.
