Start of the school year Information
Hello Rockwell Families,
Happy Summer! I wanted to send a summer newsletter out sooner rather than later so you had the opportunity to put a few important dates & times on your calendar. We will begin sending out the regular weekly newsletter on Friday, August 2nd.
This year our school wide theme is "You Are A Piece Of Our Puzzle. Rockwell is an amazing place because of our students, families, community, and staff!
I hope you are excited for the first day of school on Thursday, August 8th! I am incredibly honored and excited for another year as the principal at Rockwell. We can't wait for everyone to see the beautiful renovations that have taken place within our school building. This is going to be a fantastic school year!
We’ve had a chance to meet several of our new Roadrunner families over the summer and welcome in our new kindergarten students. ALL families are encouraged to join us for Open House on Tuesday, August 6th 4:30-6:00. Our generous PTO will be there with snacks and important information about the upcoming school year.
Preschool will start on August 12th! If you are a preschool family, you should receive a separate welcome letter from our MPS Preschool Team. Please reach out to our office if you haven’t received this information.
On Monday, August 12th we will be hosting a new family meet and greet breakfast from 8:15-9:15 in our media center! There will be donuts, coffee, and juice. Please stop by to meet new families and enjoy getting to know Rockwell!
In addition to welcoming several new students this year, I would like to our welcome new staff members! Some of these staff members joined us mid-year last year.

I am beyond excited for this school year and to see the many things that make Rockwell a great place for students to learn and grow. One of our BIG goals this year is to continue to PARTNER WITH PARENTS to help all students experience success. For this to happen, it’s important that you read the communication that comes to you from the school and keep lines of communication open between you and your child’s teacher. You are piece to our puzzle! Communication will primarily be via email. However, we will continue to share school highlights and pictures on our Rockwell Facebook & Twitter Pages. Urgent information will come to you via text message on your phone. Please ensure we have your most recent phone numbers in our Synergy system.
The following documents can be found on our Rockwell website! https://rockwell.mpsomaha.org/
We are thrilled to start the school year and look forward to reconnecting with returning students and getting to know our new students and families. For the Malcom family (Phil, Lily, Amelia, Trudy (our dog), and myself), summer was spent doing what we love best- family, food, and travel! I hope your summer was fun-filled and you were able to unplug, relax, and enjoy.
I’m looking forward to a great school year!
You Are A Piece Of Our Puzzle
Sincerely,
Mrs. Malcom

Morning Drop Off:
At Rockwell we have a very active carpool and it is imperative all parents, guardians, etc follow the expectations for arrival and dismissal.
Remember there is no parking at the start of the pick up lane.
There will be orange cones out to remind parents of the no parking. Buses and Spark will run as usual on the first day.
Students will begin heading inside when the 8:15am bell rings!
If you are able to walk or carpool, this will help our morning flow.
After school Pick Up:
Preschool dismisses at 3:25 and K-5 students dismiss at 3:30
We ask that K-5 grade parents wait to pull into the Rockwell carpool lanes until all Preschool parents and buses are able to pull through the drive through.
All K-5 students will be dismissed at our regular time of 3:30.
Buses, daycare vans and SPARK will run as usual. Please be sure classroom teachers have the most up to date after school plans for your child.
It’s very important that you talk with your child/children about their after school plans each day. Please make sure they understand what they are supposed to do.
Our fifth grade students will continue to provide crosswalk coverage at each of the crosswalks. This year supervision at those crosswalks will run from 8:10-8:25am and 3:25-3:40, 2:25-2:40 (W). If your child is needing to cross before/after that time, please plan to have an adult walk them across.
