Coach Wiegert
Coach Wiegert graduated from Fremont High School where he ran cross country and track and played basketball and baseball as well. He was part of two state championship and two runner up cross country teams while in high school. After high school he ran cross country and track at the University of Nebraska-Kearney for five years. This will be his third year coaching cross country at Millard South and his eighth year in the building teaching social studies.
Coach Haywood
Coach Haywood graduated from North Platte High School where she competed in cross country, track and swimming. She competed in the very first Nebraska State Cross Country Meet for women. Coach Haywood's Cross Country Team won three consecutive state titles. The last title was won in a tie breaker against Millard South! Coach Haywood has been a special education teacher for MPS for 30 years. She taught elementary school for 25 years before moving to teach at Millard South 5 years ago. Coach Haywood has coached Cross Country at Millard South for 29 years. Her favorite part of Cross Country is the small family atmosphere that is created and the bonds that are formed between athletes as well as coaches.
Coach Friesen
Coach Brett Friesen graduated from Gretna High School where he ran cross-country and track. After graduation, Brett ran cross-country, indoor and outdoor track at Hastings College. He then continued as a Graduate Assistant for two years at Tabor College in Hillsboro, KS where he coached the sprinters. After Tabor College, Brett was the assistant cross-country and distance Coach at Adrian College in Adrian, MI. He is excited to work with the distance runners at Millard South.
