Welcome to 5th Grade with Mrs. Pasko!
“When a flower doesn't bloom, you fix the environment in which it grows, not the flower.” (Alexander Den Heijer).
Each of us are unique and different and while we may not all share the same interests, we all share the same desire to learn, grow, and become our best version we can be.
My mission is to meet every kid where they are, and provide them with the tools they need to achieve both in the classroom and in life.
This is my 17th year in the classroom and 22 total. Before Cather, I taught in OPS(10) as well as at a preschool, and in corporate training for five years. I'm married to my high school sweetheart, and I also have two amazing kids: a daughter starting 9th grade at Millard South and a son in 5th grade, attending Cather. I LOVE learning about other cultures, and everything from history to technology to food - really, I just love learning period. 😁
Some of my favorite things are:
I love spending time with my family and friends, whether it is playing games, watching sports, movies, or just hanging out. In addition, I try to include a good mix of finding ways to be active, yet having downtime with good shows or books.
Favorite foods, drinks, etc. are pretty simple -Water, Coffee, unsweet tea, and LaCroix or Bubly. I love dark chocolate and most food, except olives and mushrooms.
My Class overview
The transition from 4th to 5th has many noticeable differences, both academically and socially. Here are some of the ways it will feel new and have an appropriate level of academic challenges to help you learn and grow this year.
In 5th grade, you'll be introduced to more advanced and complex academic content compared to 4th grade. Reading, Writing, Math, and Science will include more challenging topics and require higher-level thinking skills. Homework will also be a regular thing that should be taken seriously in order to build good work habits for their future.
In our ELA class this year, you will further your reading and writing abilities with rigor. You will be reading to enjoy and learn. You will also be putting to use all of your wonderful writing skills at a more mature level.
Students will be expected to read and comprehend more complex texts, and write longer, more structured essays and reports. They will also be required to learn about different genres and the characteristics of each as they read and complete their monthly genre study assignments. We will also be learning Greek & Latin this year and use it to build their regular vocabulary.
