About Me

Hi! My name is Lauren Winkler.

Education and Experience

I grew up in Omaha, and I am a product of Millard Public Schools. I received a Bachelor's degree in anthropology from  the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, and I was positive that I was going to become an archaeologist or forensic anthropologist. I loved everything I learned about other people and cultures, but ultimately decided that my heart was really in teaching. I spent a few years teaching in early childhood centers, and then went back to school at the College of Saint Mary to get my Master's in Teaching. I am endorsed in Elementary K-6, and English as a Second Language (ESL) PK-12.

I taught 5th grade for several years, and I am now very excited to be teaching 4th Grade Core Knowledge!

Teaching Philosophy

I believe in the power of student collaboration and multicultural encounters in the classroom to create students that are lifelong learners and respectful, responsible citizens.

I believe that planning engaging learning experiences and fostering positive relationships with students and families are essential to student success in the classroom.

I believe in students and want students to believe in themselves, so a growth mindset is always encouraged.

Interests

I am an avid reader, love making crafts, and enjoy running when it's not too hot outside. My husband and I love to travel and go hiking together with our dog, Red, when we have the time. We also enjoy going to any sports, as long as the Huskers are playing. Go Big Red!

I have a daughter named Callie, and she keeps me on my toes!
