Course Description

Students will learn and apply comprehension strategies while reading, writing, and responding to a variety of media and genres.  Students will refine their writing skills in all modes of writing through the Six Traits and the writing process to plan, draft, revise, edit, and publish with diverse purposes and audiences in mind.  Successful completion of this course will prepare students for English Language Arts 8 or Honors English 8.

• A folder (single folder or a section an accordion)

• Computer with charger 

• Earbuds/headphones

• Stylus pen (optional)

Behavioral Expectations:

In order to have an environment conducive to learning, students are expected to follow the Beadle Middle School philosophy of the BARK acronym.

A class discussion will take place whereby the 7th grade students will outline precisely what these rules mean, and how they “look” in the English classroom.

Grading Scale and Practices

90% - 100% = A

80% - 89%   = B

70% - 79%   = C

60% - 69%   = D

0% - 59%     = F

Students may expect various kinds of homework on a regular basis.  All homework is expected to be completed on time.  Homework is counted as “Late” and “Missing” if it is not turned in at the beginning of the class period on the day it is due. Grading/Late Work policies in 7th Grade English are consistent with those outlined in the student handbook:

• Homework is due at the beginning of class on the due date. 

• 10% reduction of the grade for lateness.

• Homework will not be accepted after three days from when the assignment was due and a ‘0’ will be entered in Synergy.

• If you are absent, check Google Classroom for missing assignments. As stated in the school handbook, students receive one day for every day absent to complete work.  If there is a larger problem, please communicate with Mr. Kerber.

• ***In 7th grade it is the student’s responsibility to get his/her missing work and set up times with the teacher to complete  work.
  
  

How can I get help if I need it?

I will do everything that I can to assist you in succeeding in this class!  There are several ways I can provide information and help for this class.

• Assignments can be found on Epsilon homework hub which is linked on my Google site as well as through my Google Classroom.  Please visit the Beadle home page to locate my site. This is a great place to go if you’re absent or have missed class.

• Please call or email anytime you have questions or concerns—this applies to both students and parents.  Email is my preferred method of communication, and I will do my best to respond back very quickly!

      Monday: not available a.m. / 3:05 p.m. - 3:30 p.m.

Tuesday: 7:20 a.m. - 7:45 a.m. / no p.m.

Wednesday: 7:20 a.m. - 7:45 a.m.  / 3:05 p.m. - 3:30 p.m.

Thursday:  7:20 a.m. - 7:40 a.m. / 3:05 p.m. - 3:30 p.m.

Friday: not available a.m.  / 3:05 p.m. - 3:30 p.m.
