Practice phonograms daily using the videos linked on the home page. We will have a daily graded phonogram tests as soon as we have learned 26 single phonograms.
We will begin learning how to make the written manuscript letter starting the first week of school. This is one of the most important learning processes that we learn in kindergarten. We learn the sounds of the phonograms as we learn to write the phonograms. Homework will involve daily handwriting practice. The teacher will share videos to show parents the Spalding method for making manuscript letters. Please ask your child to do their best work and watch that they are holding the pencil correctly and making each letter the way they've been taught.
We will begin weekly graded spelling tests on Fridays at the beginning of 2nd semester. At that time we will stop daily phonogram testing and only test once a week on Thursdays.
Read a Story to your child nightly. Ask questions about characters, setting and plot. Have your child retell the story in their own words.
(4th Quarter or as soon as student can read). Students are expected to read at least 10-15 minutes at home five days+ each week…the more the better. Reading out loud is the best way for them to practice fluency! Reading with your child helps with comprehension and vocabulary!

* Please help your child with their homework. We are developing the habits your child will have for the rest of their schooling. We will teach them the correct way to study and do their work so they can be independent workers in the following grade levels. Homework is due when school starts on the next day after it has been assigned. Work that was not finished in class will need to be done and turned in the next day. Thank you for your help with this.
