Prior to 8:15 there is no teacher supervision outside. Students may begin entering the building at 8:15. School begins at 8:30. If your child is ill or will not be in school for another reason, please notify the office prior to 8:30 a.m. at 402-715-6200.
Teachers will walk students out to the front of the school. Dismissal times are listed below. On Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays, students will be dismissed at 3:25. On Wednesdays, students will be dismissed at 2:25. Please see the map for directions on traffic flow and where Kindergarten will be waiting for parents.
If your Kindergartner rides the bus or take a daycare van they will wait inside the building under the supervision of a staff member and walked to their ride. If your Kindergartner attends SPARK they will be walk to SPARK and checked in.
You will be receiving a red card with your last name and child’s teacher. These cards are for dismissal procedures at the end of the day. The color red represents Kindergarten. If you are picking up your child in the car line, please put this tag in your passenger windshield so that we can see it and call your child’s name. This saves us time and helps us keep traffic flowing.
Please let us know if you need additional cards for other family members if they pick up your child.
Breakfast and lunch will be available for purchase this school year. You can add money to your students accounts through MySchool Bucks https://www.myschoolbucks.com or drop off money in the office.
Kindergartners eat lunch in the cafeteria from 11:40 - 12:00 every day. Visitors must check in with the office prior to eating lunch with students. We would ask that you wait until after Labor Day to start eating lunch with your Kindergartner to ensure that they gain confidence and independence eating in the cafeteria. Please make sure your kindergartner can idependently open all containers in his/her lunchbox.
We highly encourage students to bring water bottles daily to stay hydrated. If students bring a water bottle, please only fill it with water (not sports drinks). We also ask that students take water bottles home each night and especially over the weekend to wash them. Please make sure that you do not send disposable water bottles as these tend to spill easier.
We ask that students bring a healthy snack in their backpack along with their water bottle each day. If you would like, your child can bring a personal snack in his/her backpack daily (or some parents send 5 snacks in their backpack for the week). Please try to keep snacks healthy and avoid peanut and tree nuts in the snack. Some examples include: graham crackers, fruit, granola bars, pretzels, dry cereal, fruit snacks, popcorn, etc. Please do not send snacks in a lunch box as this causes students a lot of confusion at the beginning of the year.
Classroom teachers will gladly accept snack donations over the course of the school year for their emergency snack bin! Snacks must be store bought and individually wrapped.
This year, Wednesdays will alternate between two of the four specials classes (Music, P.E., Spanish, and Library) depending on whether it is a gold or teal week.
There will be at least two days each week that your child has P.E. class. On these days, students need to wear their tennis shoes to school.
Students are able to bring birthday treats. We ask that birthday treats are store bought and individually wrapped to prevent the spread of germs while passing these treats out to other students. An alternative to edible treats would be to send a small item for each student (pencils, stickers, small toy, etc.). Birthday treats are completely optional. Please send enough birthday treats for 21 students.
Classroom teachers will be reach out to let parents know when they will be celebrating summer birthdays.
If your child has birthday party invitations for the whole class, they may pass those out at school. In the instance that students are only inviting a few students from their class or other classes, we ask that you contact their families. Please fill out the student directory to make sure parents have your contact information.
SHARK Folders will come home every day. They will contain school notices and work from the day. Please return them empty and ready to go for the next school day.
Each child will be spotlighted during the year for one week. You will receive the SUPERSTAR/STAR STUDENT letter that explains what is expected of your child during this week from your classroom teachers. Parents/Guardians will be invited in one of the days. Classroom teachers will send out a tentative schedule for the year so you have an idea of when your child's week will be.
We will have two field trips this year! Both happen in the springtime. We will be taking a trip to The Rose Theater and the Henry Doorly Zoo in connection with our IB Unit Planners. These field trips are curriculum-related so no fees are assessed for student participation. More information will be sent home at a later date.
