Course Descriptions

Advanced Choir Prerequisite: Audition required Full year Grades 9-12 1.0 credit

This course offers an applied study of advanced singing experiences and music theory. Topics covered include music reading, common musical symbols and terminology, development of independent singing, development of vocal skills, singing music of a moderately difficult to difficult grade level. This course is recommended for students interested in advanced singing activities. This course requires student attendance at all rehearsals and performances. Purchase of concert attire is required.

Concert Choir Prerequisite: none Full year Grades 9-12 1.0 credit

This course offers an applied study of music theory, singing independence and proper use of the singing voice. Topics covered include working knowledge of musical symbols, elements of music, reading printed music and understanding of conductor’s hand signals. Also covered is the development of vocal skills, in preparation for performance. There is also a study of vocal literature representing various styles of music. This course is recommended for students who enjoy singing. This course requires student attendance at all rehearsals and performances and the purchase of concert attire.


Morning Choir Prerequisite: none Full year Grades 9-12 .5 Arts credit

This course is offered to those students who can not fit a choir class into their daily schedule. The class is 7:00am-7:25am every day. All students who participate will perform with Concert Choir and be eligible for festival and performance offerings.



Guitar I & Ukulele I One semester: 9, 10, 11, 12 .5 Arts Credit

Guitar is a one semester course covering the basics of the instrument and an application of essential music fundamentals. Students will learn the basics of playing guitar at the beginning level through studying music notation, chord symbols and peer modeling. A brief history of the guitar along with a study of its respective musical styles will also be covered in this course.

The main objective of this course is to create an enhanced appreciation for music through non-traditional performance method. Students will learn to how to read music notation, chord symbols and tablature. Students will also gain a better understanding of many different musical genres – classical, flamenco, blues, jazz, rock, etc.

Guitar II One semester: 9, 10, 11, 12 .5 Arts Credit

Prerequisite - must have completed Guitar I


Piano I One semester: Grades 9, 10, 11, 12 .5 Arts Credit

This course offers a beginner’s view of piano/keyboard technique and proper basics for students. Topics covered include scales, basic music theory, easy songs, and finger exercises. The student does not need any past experience with piano, but some experience might help with progress.

Piano II One semester: Grades 9, 10, 11, 12 .5 Arts Credit

Prerequisite - must have completed Piano I
