The Middletown High School DECA co-curricular program is a "Salad Bar of Success" where students can pick and choose from a wide and rigorous variety of college and career preparatory experiences. These experiences include:
- Two full year courses of classroom learning. This learning is relevant and "real world" where students earn the skills and the competitive edge in college and careers. In 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2017 Middletown was ranked #1 by the State of Connecticut for Marketing education.
- Membership in a well respected worldwide professional organization of more than 250,000 students. With this membership comes many leadership opportunities, not to mention the respect membership brings in the business community. Each year students run for officer positions to augment the program.
- Competition! Our students use what they learn in state and international competitions and noone does it better than Middletown DECA! Please reference the "Competition History" page for a more thorough accounting of the DECA student's successes.
- Cooperative work experience. Students enrolled in DECA have the opportunity to work and earn credit, money, and also learn responsibility.
- Community service. DECA students have the opportunity to work as part of a community service organization to give back to their community and also build their resume for college applications. We have partnered with JDRF, Lyman's, MARC, Middlesex Chamber of Commerce, and the Elks Club of Middletown.
- School Store. We run a school store that caters to students and faculty with certain food products and also Middletown apparel. This provides the opportunity for working in a retail setting, learning responsibility, and learning customer service.
- Professional conferences. Throughout the year students have the opportunity to attend professional business conferences at the state and international level.
- Fun! We hold events, have parties. We work hard and play hard!
