Welcome to ELA! We have so much great learning ahead of us and I am so excited for the year! Here are the most important ways for your student to be successful in class:
Participate in discussions
Ask for help or clarification
Read at least 15 min a day (Ask them what they read about)
Complete work on time
I can use color coding to mark annotations in a text.
I can find the gist of a text.
I can complete 5 word summaries to summarize paragraphs within a text.
I can use evidence to support my answer.
Our first literature study is Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief. This will be a daily read aloud in class. If a student is absent I have read aloud videos embedded on Canvas. Please complete this Google Form below so your student can borrow a copy. Completing this form will earn your student 5 bonus Dojo points.
Over the next two weeks we will be analyzing a text called "The Hero's Journey". This explains stages that most heroes/protagonists go through within their journey. We will reference this text throughout the quarter as we read the Lightning Thief. We will most commonly reference "Moana" as we learn about each stage. Other great stories to reference to discuss the stages at home are Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, The Wizard of Oz, most Disney/Pixar movies.
