Grading:
Daily: 40% of your grade
Assignments categorized as “Daily” include Classwork and Homework.
*Most Frequent.
Minor: 30% of your grade
Assignments categorized as “Minor” include Quizzes, Projects, and Labs.
*Approximately 1-2 per week.
Major: 30% of your grade
Assignments categorized as “Major” include: Tests, Major Projects and Major Labs.
*Approximately 3-4 per Marking Period.

D - 73%-65%

Late Work Policy
This is compliant with the MPS District-Wide Late Work Policy for Grades 6-12.
If you turn in an assignment within 1-7 days (one week) of its due date, 5 points will be deducted.
If you turn in an assignment within 8-14 days (two weeks) of its due date, 10 points will be deducted.
After 2 weeks, you may submit an alternate assignment for a maximum grade of 50%.
*The last day to submit an alternate assignment will be 3 days prior to the end of each Marking Period.
Absent Work Policy
If you are absent, you will have the number of days you were absent to make up the work you missed in class (or an alternative assignment).
*Dates are flexible if extenuating circumstances are communicated .
An important part of middle school is developing effective organizational strategies & habits. The following tools are recommended to help keep organized:
Supplies:
Science Notebook
Pencils/Pens/highlighters
Binder for handouts.
Science Notebook
Our Science Notebook will be essential. It will be a beneficial resource to reference in science classes for years to come if organized and taken care of.
It will be critical for Note-Taking, Experimenting, Data Collecting, Reflecting, and Reviewing.
Students will periodically be graded on their Science Notebooks, they will be in the “Daily” grade category unless otherwise specified.
LMS Policies and Procedures (LMS "Non-Negotiables"):
-Appropriate Hallway Behavior.
-Cell-phone use is not permitted in class.
-Dress Code Policy is always in effect.
-No Profanity. This goes hand-in-hand with mutual respect.
Classroom Policies and Procedures (Mrs. Shirley's "Non-Negotiable"):
-Mutual Respect. We will all respect one another as well as our surroundings.
Classroom Management:
1st offense - Warning to student in class.
2nd offense - Above & contact home.
3rd offense - Above & Write-up/Referral
4th offense - Above & Student removal (if necessary)
Examples of incidents include: lateness, class disruptions, not completing work during class time, etc.
Positive Rewards Monitored Via Class Dojo.
Points will be awarded to the class for adhering to the policies, procedures and expectations. Appropriate Class Rewards will be given based on student performance.
