Mrs. Henry

My name is Rebecca Shewlakow-Henry and I teach 7th-grade science at Lakeside Middle School.  I graduated from Millville Senior High School in 1988 and from Evangel University in 1992.  After working in the private sector for several years, I decided to go back to school to obtain my teaching certification.  I attended Rowan University and completed my Post Baccalaureate Elementary (K-8) Certification in 2002.  In 2015, I earned my Master's in Education from Concordia University where I studied Curriculum and Instruction with a concentration in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics).  I also received my New Jersey Supervisor's Certification in March 2017 after taking additional graduate classes at Rowan University.  I believe that learning never ends and that everyone should take advantage of available learning opportunities.  As such, I consistently read several education blogs, participate in online professional learning communities, and always look for ways to improve my lessons.

I can hardly believe it, but I'm starting year 23 of teaching!  I'm an AVID-trained educator who uses the WIC-OR methodology (writing, inquiry, collaboration, organization, and reading) daily in my classroom.  My classes are filled with hands-on activities and students are in the lab a couple of days each week.  

I live in Millville with my husband.  My son, Alex, is 25 and is enrolled in a dual degree program (Math and Electrical Engineering) at Stockton University.  He is finishing his last year of the Electrical Engineering program at Rutgers University and plans to graduate in May 2025.  Alex graduated with his Associate's Degree in Engineering from Mercer County Community College in May 2020.  We have two cats: Sabrina and Ugly John, who is named after a character from the TV show MASH.
