3rd Grade
¡3 minutos to Win!
Activity: 3 Minutes to Win
Objectives:
Students will be able to identify written numbers in Spanish up to one hundred.
Students will be able to construct towers using plastic cups by following challenges that display written Spanish numbers.
Directions
The students were organized into groups of four. Each group received four different challenges, each represented by a color: yellow, green, pink, and orange.
Each team member was required to build a tower within a 3-minute timeframe. A timer, visible to all participants, was used to track the time. After completing their challenge, each student moved to the left to take on the next challenge.
Cups with written numbers were placed on the tables to be used during the activity.
Guidelines
Group Organization:
Students will be divided into groups of four. Each group will receive a set of challenges with different colors (yellow, green, pink, and orange).
Each student will be responsible for completing one challenge at a time.
Time Management:
A visible timer will be set for 3 minutes for each student to complete their challenge. It is important to manage time efficiently.
When the timer ends, students must stop their task immediately, even if the tower is not fully constructed.
Challenge Completion:
Each student will work on the designated challenge for 3 minutes. After completing their challenge, students must rotate to the left to start the next challenge.
Accuracy in Numbers:
Students must pay close attention to the numbers written on the cups and ensure they are correctly identifying them in Spanish.
No guessing or skipping of numbers is allowed. Accuracy is key.
Collaboration:
Collaboration within the group is encouraged, but each student must complete their own challenge independently.
It is important to support and encourage fellow team members during the activity.
Respect and Safety:
Students must handle the cups carefully to prevent accidents or spills. If a tower is accidentally knocked over, the student must begin again within the remaining time.
Respect each other’s workspace and avoid distractions while other students are completing their challenges.
Completion and Reflection:
Once all students have completed their challenges, each group should reflect briefly on their performance and discuss what they learned.
Teachers may provide feedback and encourage students to share any difficulties or successes they experienced during the activity.
Clean-Up:
At the end of the activity, students should work together to clean up their materials, ensuring that all cups are collected and properly stored
