4th Grade ELA
ELA21.4.R3 Use digital and electronic tools appropriately, safely, and ethically when researching and writing, both individually and collaboratively.
ELA21.4.15 Analyze in depth a character, setting, or event in a story or drama, drawing on specific details in the text.
ELA21.4.15c Make an inference about a character’s behavior, the setting, and/or specific events, using explicit details from the story.
Objectives:
Students will review essential ELA skills through a fun and engaging Gingerbread-themed escape room activity. This will show mastery of fourth grade ELA standards. Following standard reviews, students will design and build gingerbread houses.
Directions:
Students will solve a series of ELA-related puzzles and challenges to "escape" the room and unlock the next step in the activity. One student will control the Chromebook in which the escape room is on and another student will be in charge of recording answers.
Puzzles include comprehension, theme, summarizing, characters, settings, and events, context clues, figurative language, comparing and contrasting themes, and asking and answering questions.
After completing the escape room, students will work in pairs and collaborate to design a gingerbread house.
Guidelines:
Students will work in groups or pairs to complete their Gingerbread-themed escape room. After the escape room, students will continue working in pairs to build a Gingerbread house to their liking.
Here are pictures of the students completing the activity.
