Conductors and Insulators Activity

Science
Standard: SC.4.3. Plan and carry out investigations to provide evidence that energy is transferred by sound, light, heat, and electric currents. Examples: creating an electric circuit that requires a complete loop
b. Construct an explanation with evidence supporting the claim that different objects can absorb, reflect, and/or conduct energy.
Objective: Students did an experiment to see which objects were conductors and which objects were insulators.
Directions: Students worked in groups and took turns testing different objects to see if they were conductors of electricity or if they were insulators. The used energy sticks and various objects to see which would complete the circuits (conductors) and make the energy stick light up and buzz and which did not (insulators).
Guidelines: Students worked in groups to complete the activity. Students created a list of conductors and insulators they found and made claims about them. (Example Claim: Most conductors were metal.)
Watch above for pictures of the students completing the activity.
