The AI Disruption in Schools
Montgomery Public Schools (MPS) does not have an AI Policy. However, a proposed policy can be adapted from the expectations outlined by Georgia Southwestern State University related to the use of AI.
AI Policy for Graduate Students: The professor/instructor of each class shall provide guidance if AI technologies can or cannot be used for each course assignment and clearly communicate guidelines in the course syllabus. Some or all the assignments for a course may be designated as human only. AI services and tools should not be used for human only assignments and consequences should be outlined in course syllabus by the professor/instructor in the event such services and tools are utilized by students. It is important for students to consult with their professor/instructor before using AI technologies or tools for assignments if unsure about their acceptable use.
Policies and Procedures
Assignments: The following assignments are human only: discussion posts, Curriculum Evaluation, and Instructional Strategy. The use of AI on any assignment designated as human only will result in a “0” being assigned. Additionally, the assignment cannot be resubmitted.
Student reminders:
Submission of text generated by AI or other automated methods, whether or not updated by student revision, cannot fully demonstrate achievement of course or learning objectives.
The use of AI should not diminish the ability of a student to think clearly.
AI does not differentiate between fact and fiction.
If allowed, AI should be used as a tool to learn, not just to produce content only.
The use of AI must be completed responsibly and ethically.
Students are responsible for any inaccurate, biased, offensive, or unethical content included in their assignment even if using AI technologies.
All assignment submissions are subject to the developed rubric for the assignment. Hence, students should ensure content is accurate within the context of the assignment before submission.
Students should not submit AI-generated content as their own work. The use of AI does not justify plagiarism.
If permitted to use AI technologies or tools, students must cite the AI tool or service. Failure to do so could constitute plagiarism.
Citation of the Use of AI:
AI cannot be listed as the author (be specific).

AI may be used for group work as a tool to support learning through the generation of ideas. The work should be cited.
Students who do not properly cite the use of AI will be identified for academic honety. The Montgomery Public Schools (MPS) Student Conduct Manual will be followed accordingly.
