About Windom Community School

As we move to a community school in 2021-2022, we will make a commitment to excellence, equity, and high expectations and will accept everyone with love and kindness. All students will experience a well rounded education with highly individualized instruction for all learners. With whole and small groups, we will implement effective instruction and assessment using best practices to meet students’ differentiated learning styles and needs. Whether students come in above, at, or below grade level, we will work with students and support them to move them on a growth trajectory to success. We will develop school rules together and as a community, create our new mission and vision.

Staffing:

Staff will be determined based on budgeting and student enrollment. Teachers will go through an interview process and will be selected by an interview team. Support staff will be determined based on the upcoming budget. We will have a School Social Worker on site. We will have an Academic Learner Lead, a Differentiation Specialist, Special Education Resource Teachers (SERT's), 1 Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) classroom, an ESL (English as a Second Language) teacher, Math and Literacy support.

School Day:

9:30am-4:00pm

Grade Band:

Kindergarten through 5th Grade

Programming:

*Literacy-Benchmark with Lexia/Core 5, providing differentiated literacy instruction for students of all abilities in grades K-5.

*Math-Investigations with Dreambox supplement, with rigorous and interactive lessons adapted to each student providing the ultimate personalized learning math experience.

*Advanced Learner programming.

*Telescope Math starting in 4th Grade.

*Specialists includes Art, General Music, PE and Media. 5th Graders will take Band.

*We will have ESL (English as a Second Language) services and Special Education support, including 1 ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder) classroom.

Other Details:

*We have a lovely Media Center with a computer lab/Maker Space and robotics.

*We are a Mpls Kids site. Due to our late start time, we are planning on having Mpls Kids both before and after school.

*We will have ALC after school academic and enrichment programming.

*We will work with BLC (the Bilingual Learning Center) to have additional before and after school programming and support. Details will be presented at the Open House meeting on December 15th and January 13th.

*We have a new full service kitchen and lunchroom.

*We are connected to the Windom South Mpls Park and use their large playground for recess and active time.
