What happens at each meeting?
You will be formally meeting with your supervisor a minimum of three times: once at the beginning, once in the middle, and once at the end of the process.
You will write reflections in Google Classroom based on these meetings, and these reflections will be submitted to IB along with your Extended Essay.
A short description of each meeting is found below:
Pre-meeting! Very short
Before you have your first official meeting
This is your chance to introduce yourself if you don't know each other, and make sure you know how best to contact each other and how you will set up meetings. This would be a good time to ask if it's best to meet before or after school, during lunch, or some other time. This meeting might happen in the spring before school is out, or in September.
Meeting one:
Early in the process - due Friday, September 19
You will get to know each other, and you will present your project proposal. At this point, you might have an outline and some preliminary research accomplished. At this stage, you should become familiar with the assessment grade descriptors in the EE Guide (grades A-E). This first meeting is also a great opportunity to ask questions about research and organization of your analysis.
Meeting two:
Middle of the process - November
At this point, you should have a strong working draft of your paper. Share your draft before this meeting. Your supervisor is not expected to fix grammar or formatting. It is your work, but they can help you make sure that the draft makes sense and is moving along as expected.
Meeting three:
End of the process - Viva Voce!
This final meeting is a celebration! You should share your essay with your supervisor before the meeting. You will reflect on the process, the successes and challenges, and what you learned from engaging in this experience.
