Mathematics Department

IB Middle Years Programme (MYP)

9th and 10th Grade

The MYP mathematics framework encompasses number, algebra, geometry and trigonometry, statistics and probability.

Students in the MYP learn how to represent information, to explore and model situations, and to find solutions to familiar and unfamiliar problems. These are skills that are useful in a wide range of arenas, including social sciences andhe arts.

MYP mathematics can be tailored to the needs of students, seeking to intrigue and motivate them to want to learn its principles. Students see authentic examples of how mathematics is useful and relevant to their lives and be encouraged to apply it to new situations.

IB Diploma Programme (DP)

11th and 12th Grade

IB DP mathematics courses serve to accommodate the range of needs, interests and abilities of students, and to fulfill the requirements of various university and career aspirations.

The aims of these courses are to enable students to:

develop mathematical knowledge, concepts and principles

develop logical, critical and creative thinking

employ and refine their powers of abstraction and generalization.

Students are also encouraged to appreciate the international dimensions of mathematics and the multiplicity of its cultural and historical perspectives.

All DP mathematics courses require students to appreciate the use of technology in mathematics and become proficient with graphing calculators.
