What Type of Personal Project Can I Do?

Your MYP Personal Project is a project that is designed, led, and created by YOU! The IB places great significance on the expression of your unique talents, so the Personal Project should be the exploration of a personal passion rather than a topic that someone else requires you to do.

The Personal Project may take many forms, such as:

  • an original work of art (art, music, dramatic performance, playwriting, etc.)
  • a piece of literary fition (creative writing)
  • an original science experiment testing your own hypothesis
  • an invention or specially-designed object or system
  • an original website

Southwest students have done the following projects:

  • painted a mural at a middle school
  • invented a robot
  • organized and coached summer sports teams
  • organized fundraisers to build schools
  • wrote a novel
  • created a guide for vegetarian restuarants in Minneapolis/St. Paul
  • completed certification/training to become a therapy team with dog
  • designed a clothing line and produced one outfit
  • visited an orphange in China and created five paintings that represented the experience

Lastly, make sure that you have fun with this project. This can only be accomplished if you select and design a project that is truly in tune with who you are and your interests. Your completion of a successful project is an excellent preparation for future studies, job interviews, summer employment, and career development. You should enjoy this project. After all, it is YOUR Personal Project.
